When I decided to go to see the Baobab in Madagascar, there was the place where I wanted to go by all means.
It was Salary bay I saw on a travel magazine.
There is nothing around at all. The only thing they have is a small village of maritime people. There is no electricity, and the communication tool is only satellite phone! Moreover, the only way to get there is taking a four wheel drive. On the other hand, I heard that we can see the wonderful starry sky in the night. The interior is lovely, and I heard dinner and breakfast are included, which are incredibly delicious despite located in such an inconvenient place. Besides, they have a hammock which I love at every cottage!
I thoght "I must go there!" and started to search about Salary bay. I found that it is located on the way to Baobab road, west coast side of Madagascar.
We drove to north by a four wheel drive starting from Tulear, and then Anbadadoaka, Morombe, Andonbilly. The distance is not that much, but it is a hard tour taking three days and two nights because of the rough road. Moreover, the only way to go back from the north to the south is by air, so we have no choice but taking the rough road like nightmare. It is just ascetic practices to people who are not interested in Baobab, but it is Baobab golden road for me, where I can see various kinds of the huge baobabs. I could not skip it how hard the tour is.....
I tried to make a reservation for the cottage on the way back to Tulear, but unfortunately, there was no vacancy. It seemed difficult to book as the cottage has only several rooms. I decided to ask directly at the cottage on the day if there is any vacancy.
マダガスカルにバオバブを見に行くと決めたとき、どうしても行ってみたい場所が他にあった。
旅行記事で紹介されていたサラリーベイ。
とにかくまわりに何もない。あるのは小さなヴェズ族（海洋民族）の村だけ。電気も通ってないし、通信は衛星電話のみ！しかもアクセスは四駆をチャーターして行くしか方法がない。そんな場所にあるせいで、夜になると満天の星空がのぞめるらしい。インテリアも素敵だし、朝食と夕食がついていて、しかもその料理がこんな不便な場所にあるのが信じられないくらいおいしいとの情報。あと、大好きなハンモックが各コテージのエントランスにある！
これは行くっきゃない！と調べ始めると、巨大バオバブ巡礼コースの西海岸にあることが分かった。
南部のチュレアールを起点に、アンバダドアカ、モロンベ、アンドンビリーへ四駆で北上。距離的には大してないのだが、悪路をひたすら走るから２泊３日を要するハードな行程だ。しかも北部から南部に戻る空路がないから、また地獄のような道を戻るしか帰る方法がない。バオバブに興味のない人には苦行そのもだが、私には色々な種類の巨大バオバブが拝める黄金ロードだ。どんなに辛くても外せない・・・
チュレアールへ戻る途中で泊まる予約をしたのだが、あいにく満室。コテージが数室しかない小さなホテルなので、なかなか予約を取りづらいようだ。これはイチかバチか、当日に行って聞いてみるしかないな～と腹をくくる。
After all, I could book only one night, but the newlywed couple who I met on the Baobab road many times offerd me to stay at the second floor of their cottage. I declined because they are the newlyweds, but they made an offer again saying "the only one night is nothing". The owner's wife appeard out of nowhere, and she suggested me to stay with the promotional price. Finally, I decided to stay there for 2 nights thanks to their kindness.
In a conversation with the bride, we found us the same age and also we are from the same city, so we hit it off with each other!
We ate together and went on a dive by canoe. I couldn't have such a wonderful time in Salary bay without their kindness. I really appriciate them. Even after this trip, I keep in touch with them and also visit their home. I feel something like fate. I'm really happy to have a company with whom I can share and talk about the time in there.
やはり人気で1泊しか空いていなかったが、バオバブコースで何度も一緒になっていた新婚夫婦が、コテージの２階に泊まっていいよ！とオファーしてくれた。さすがに新婚さんとご一緒するのは申し訳ないとお断りしたのだが、一日くらいいいよ～と、申し出てくださる。いつのまにかオーナー夫人も出てきて、プロモーション価格で泊まらせてくれるという甘い言葉。ご厚意に甘えさせてもらって、２泊することにした。
色々話しているうちに、新婦さんと同い年、同じ出身地なことが分かり、意気投合！ご飯もご一緒させてもらったり、一緒にカヌーでダイビングに行ったり、本当にお世話になった。サラリーでの素敵な経験は、二人の厚意なくしては実現しなかった。本当に感謝している。帰国してからも家に遊びに行かせてもらったり、連絡を取り合っていて、不思議な縁を感じる。あの場所と時間を共有して話せる仲間がいることが本当にうれしい。

In Madagascar, somehow my body felt itchy wherever I stay, but only here I did not itch at all. Sheets and towels smell good like soap and they are absolutely clean. I forgot to take pictures of the bathroom, but the room was unified by blue colour and the contrast between the blue colour and the white wall was impressive.
After I enjoyed on the beach, I read a book in a swinging hammock and felt asleep in the end. When I woke up, There were almost suset. I could hear only the sound of the waves and there was no artificial materials in sight .
日差しが強くて洗濯物が干したそばから即効で乾く。
マダガスカルではどこのホテルに泊まっても、なぜか体中がかゆくなったけど、ここだけは全然かゆくならなかった。シーツもタオルも石鹸のいい香りで清潔そのもの。バスルームの写真を撮り忘れたけど、ブルーで統一されていて白い壁とのコントラストが印象的だった。
ビーチで遊んだあとは、部屋のハンモックに揺られながら読書。いつの間にかウトウトしていて、気づいたらもう日が暮れかけていた。聞こえてくるのは波の音だけ。視界に入るものに人工物が一切ない。
Baobab trees or fishes were embroidered on all fabrics. They are so cute and I asked the owner's wife where I could get one. She said they are her original design. Even the cottage was designed by the owner and the interior was in charge of the owner's wife. I wonder how on earth they decided to build a cottage in the middle of nowhere.
There seems to be still many places where most Japanese don't know. Finding and traveling such places is one of my goal in life!

ファブリックにはそれぞれバオバブや魚の刺繍があった。あまりにかわいくて欲しくなり、どこに売っているのかオーナーに聞いたら、彼女のオリジナルデザインらしい。ここの建物も、建築家の旦那さんが設計して、インテリアは彼女が担当している。この何もない場所に、よくこれだけのものを作ろうと思ったなあ。
世界にはまだまだ日本人に知られていない場所がいっぱいありそうだ。そんな場所をこれからも見つけて旅するのが人生の目標のひとつ！
